UF IFAS FLREC Chiller Replacement

An existing air cooled chiller, distribution pumps, and underground CHW piping were replaced for an office/laboratory building. At the Owner's request, the unit size was increased (existing 150 ton unit replaced with a 280 ton unit) in order for the unit to be run at a lower, more energy efficient loading. To assist in this new controls scheme, the two constant speed pumps were replaced with two variable speed pumps. This project also included replacing a DX cooling coil of an indoor AHU with a new CHW cooling coil. The above ceiling space surrounding this unit was limited, so an alternate piping route along the roof was found to deliver CHW from the chiller to the retrofitted AHU.
